Ohio Sunshine Laws Training
The foundation of Ohio's Sunshine Laws is the principle that citizens are much more likely to have both trust and confidence in governmental institutions that are open to public scrutiny. House Bill 9, passed by the 126th Ohio General Assembly, strengthens these important laws and gives the Office of the Ohio Attorney General primary responsibility for ensuring that public officials across the state understand them.
Among other provisions, HB 9 mandates that during each term served in elected office, all elected officials* or their appropriate designees obtain three hours of public records training via a curriculum approved by the Ohio Attorney General. This mandate applies whether the official was appointed or elected to that office.
