Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of Career Services Coordinator, Learning Commons. The Learning Commons is a forward-thinking, collaborative, social, and supportive environment for the campus community. The Career Services Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting students by providing timely assistance with a variety of career services for both in-person and online students, including individual and group offerings. This position oversees the effective operation of the Career Services Center, conducting workshops, webinars, and training sessions on various career topics. The coordinator is also responsible for developing and facilitating internships, job placements, resume writing, interview preparation, and study abroad opportunities. Additionally, the coordinator plans and organizes career development activities and resources to assist students and alumni in preparing for their professional careers, collaborating closely with employers, faculty, and students to enhance career exploration and job search strategies.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Provides individualized and group career counseling to students, guiding them through their career decision-making process.
  • Assists students in developing resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, and job application materials.
  • Organizes and leads workshops on career-related topics such as resume writing, networking, interviewing, and job search strategies.
  • Coordinates career fairs, employer information sessions, and networking events.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with local, regional, and national employers and organizations to create internships and job opportunities.
  • Coordinates employer recruitment efforts and promotes employment opportunities to students.
  • Provides assistance to students in securing internships and full-time employment.
  • Seeks highly competitive internship opportunities for students and implements a competitive application process for student selection for internships.
  • Tracks and reports on employment outcomes for graduates.
  • Collaborates with international partner institutions to develop and maintain exchange programs and coordinates all logistical aspects of study abroad programs, including pre-departure orientations, travel arrangements, housing, and on-site support.
  • Advises students on study abroad opportunities, eligibility requirements, application processes, visa requirements, and cultural adjustments.
  • Works closely with faculty, academic departments, and student organizations to promote career services.
  • Collaborates with alumni relations to engage graduates in career development initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate records of student interactions, career development activities, and employer relationships.
  • Develops and distributes marketing materials to promote career services.
  • Provides updates and reports to the Executive Director of the Learning Commons on program successes and student outcomes.
  • Interacts regularly with students, faculty, and staff in an office setting.
  • May require evening or weekend hours for workshops, student sessions, or special events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPENTENCIES:
 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or a related field.
  • Exceptional student service skills and a student-centered mindset.
  • Ability to work professionally with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience in higher education or academic support services is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of educational practices regarding career services in higher education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to evolving educational needs.
  • Proficient in technology tools necessary for the role (e.g., Excel, Gmail, Google Sheets, and Google Drive etc.).
  • Growth and “doer” mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.
  • Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.
